BlackRose: 2018 Film Review

This is in no way, a professional review, these are just my feels on the movie.

Read On

I don’t know why people are not talking about this movie at all or enough. But this movie deserves some accolades and recognition for the class that it is.

It’s rare to watch a Nigerian movie that makes you ponder, even just for a little bit. Although Black rose isn’t a “go think about that” kind of movie, it has its potential.

Featuring Excellent actors like Blossom Chukwujekwu (who played Desmond), Ebele Okaro, Jidekene Achufusi (who played Nelo) also getting introduced, for the first time to Echelon Mbadiwe (who played Rose)

The movie takes you on a ride through the life of a barely getting by family, headed by a mother, strong and spirited. But like every parent, saddened by the choices of her eldest daughter.

Now, Rose sees everything going on in her family and seems to be a rock for her mother,

But falls short, believing in a man she had no business moving forward with.

Attraction gains a bad name for this story sake. Rose, unknowingly leaps into the trap of blind hope, whilst in the world of a man indebted to the dark world.

While believing that there is difference between her sisters plight and hers, she gives herself no option of leaving. She buries herself in lies and deceit and betrayal. And allowing hate spring up within herself she refuses herself to see.

This movie is thought provoking. At first just driving on a straight road, the story hits right past the middle. Full of innocence. I think it’s naivety at best and ignorance at it’s worse.

Rose, is the typical example of caught in the middle. Of her mum’s aggressive way of handling her sisters issue

diverting. No matter what your child does, verbally (abusively) calling that child out, only pulls the child closer to the opposite side,no matter the age.

Although, that’s not an excuse, such behavior is assessed by the other children and that builds a demarcation.

So Rose could neither go to her mother or sister, so it all built up and she sunk.

You know when you get so caught up in a situation you walked right into, it becomes clear of how impossible it is to get out.

Rose opened the door of healing while in the middle of death. You could call it an unintended sacrifice.

God took the one person, no one could have imagined, twisted her life and changed her style, just so there could be change. Not that the change couldn’t have happened any other way.
